Reinstallation

Reinstall the Virima Discovery Application when you require a clean setup after major configuration changes.

Prerequisites

Version requirements for in-place upgrade to 6.1.0.1

You can perform an in-place upgrade only if the Discovery Application version is 6.1.4023 or higher.

Note: If the Discovery Application version is below 6.1.4023, perform a clean installation instead.

Access and resources

Before you begin, confirm that you have:

Procedure

Follow these steps to reinstall the Virima Discovery Application.

  1. Stop the Discovery Application service.

    Before making any changes to the installation, stop the running application to prevent data corruption or file conflicts.

    1. Locate the Virima Discovery Application shortcut on the desktop.

    2. Click Stop.

    Note: To confirm the application has fully stopped, open Windows Services and verify the status of Virima Discovery Application is stopped.

  2. Back up configuration files.

    Before reinstalling the application, create a secure backup of the files listed below from your current installation. These items contain credentials, configuration settings, and certificates required to restore the application to a working state.

    Note: Store these files in a secure, accessible location before proceeding. You will need them during the Restore the backed-up files section.

  3. Uninstall the Discovery Application.

    1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

    2. Select Virima Discovery Application and click Uninstall. Follow the prompts to complete.

    3. After uninstalling, manually delete the folder: C:\Program Files\Virima Discovery Application.

    4. Open Windows Services and verify that no service named VirimaDiscoveryApplication is listed as running.

    5. If the VirimaDiscoveryApplication service is still running, stop or terminate it.

    6. Confirm the system is clean before proceeding and restart the system if Windows recommends you to do so.

  4. Download the latest installer.

    1. Go to Admin Portal > Client (Discovery) > Download Application.

    2. Click the Download icon.

    3. Download the latest Discovery Application .exe installer file.

  5. Install the application on the target machine.

    With backup files secured and the installer downloaded, proceed with the fresh installation on the machine.

    1. Right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.

    2. Follow the on-screen installation wizard to complete setup.

    Important: Do not start the Virima Discovery Application service after installation. Wait until backed-up files are restored before starting the Virima Discovery Application service.

  6. Restore the backed-up files.

    Copy each backed-up file to its original path on the target machine, replacing existing files where required. For the source and destination paths, refer to the backup table in the Back up configuration files section.

  7. Update common.properties.

    Complete this section only if SSL is configured for agent communication. If SSL is not configured, proceed to the Verify the keystore properties section.

    If SSL is configured, complete the following before starting the Virima Discovery Application service:

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Virima Discovery Application\.

    2. Open SampleCommonProperties.txt.

    3. Copy all content.

    4. Paste it into C:\Program Files\Virima Discovery Application\config\common.properties, replacing the existing content.

    5. Update the following SSL agent configuration values to match your environment:

      • Keystorepassagent

      • destinationStorePass

      • liveconnectionserverport

    6. Save the file.

  8. Verify the keystore properties.

    To verify that properties are loaded correctly into the keystore:

    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

    2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Virima Discovery Application\.

    3. Run DAKeyStoreManager.bat.

    4. Enter 6 to view all records.

    5. Verify that all properties and values are correctly loaded.

    The following options are available in DAKeyStoreManager:

    Option Description
    Upload properties from Property File Load multiple configuration entries at once from a .properties file.
    Add/Edit a Record Add a new key-value property or edit an existing one.
    Delete One Record Remove a specific key-value pair from the store.
    Delete All Records Clear all stored properties from the configuration. Use with caution.
    View One Record View a specific stored property by entering its key.
    Exit List all current stored properties. Helpful for verification or auditing.

    If properties fail to load correctly, refer to Troubleshooting Connection and Credential Issues.

  9. Start the Discovery Application service.

    1. Locate the Virima Discovery Application shortcut on the desktop.

    2. Click Start.

    3. Confirm the status shows Running.

    Note: If the Virima Discovery Application fails to connect after restoration, or backed-up credentials are not visible, complete Troubleshooting Connection and Credential Issues.

Troubleshooting Connection and Credential Issues

Use this procedure if, after starting the Virima Discovery Application service:

Reload the keystore

  1. Repeat the Update common.properties procedure with the correct SSL values.

  2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Virima Discovery Application\.

  4. Run DAKeyStoreReLoader.bat.

  5. Wait for the process to complete successfully.

  6. Repeat the Start the Discovery Application service procedure.

Verify credentials

  1. Open the Virima Discovery Application.

  2. Confirm that existing credentials are visible.

If issues persist, contact Virima Support through the support portal.
