Peripheral Device Serial Numbers
USB devices and monitors were previously discovered without serial numbers or appeared as duplicates during agent-based Windows scans. The sensor now extracts serial numbers from Device IDs, deduplicates entries using the Device ID as a unique key, and uses a three-tier fallback for monitor detection (WmiMonitorID > Win32_DesktopMonitor > USB DISPLAY entries).
Where the fix appears
The improved peripheral data is visible in the following locations:
| Location | What changed |
|---|---|
| CMDB > Windows Host CI > Peripheral Devices tab | USB devices and monitors now show serial numbers with no duplicate entries. |
| CMDB > Peripheral Device CI > Detail page | Individual peripheral CIs have accurate serial numbers and model information. |
Procedure
Complete the following steps to populate peripheral data for existing Windows hosts.
-
Update the Discovery Agent.
Deploy the updated agent to Windows hosts where peripheral discovery is needed.
-
Re-run the agent scan.
Trigger a new scan to collect peripheral serial numbers.
